A week ago, we needed to go out to have Magnus vaccinated for a couple of ones that did not make it for before the pandemic struck. Our pediatrician had moved offices and as we didn’t know where exactly the room would be, we had to prepare the stroller to be “shielded”.
Normally a raincover would be the perfect solution but we only have the insect screen on hand and it was not going to do the trick. We needed one and fast and so, having a roll of plastic around, we had a go at making one.

Our stroller is the Looping Squizz 2 but we’re positive the same method would work for other strollers as well, provided that yours has a “hood” and it should.
Here’s what you need to make it happen:
– A sheet big enough to wrap around the stroller (ideally plastic, if you had something big delivered during this quarantine days then you would probably have one lying around somewhere)
– Scissors
– Measuring tape
– Your choice of fastener
Here’s how you actually make it:

1. Measure the length of the hood and the length of the top of the hood up to where you want the raincover to end. This would be between where your baby’s feet lie and right before the wheels.
2. Reflect this measurement into the sheet. First we would cut a square using this measurement as its sides. You don’t need to be incredibly precise at this time.
3. Fold up the square sheet in half and then again so you end up with 1/4 of the sheet in hand.
4. Fold up this 1/4 sheet into a triangle and continue folding it over itself until you’re comfortable to cut a small curve at the top. This step would make the square into a circle / circular. Refine to taste.
5. When you’re happy with your shape its practically ready to be used.
6. Align the end of the circle over the back of the stroller hood and let the rest of the material drape over the front.
7. Hold the opposite sides of the sheet along the part that touches the front of the stroller hood and fold it towards the handles. Fasten them where they meet the sheet and you’re done!

You need to familiarize your baby/toddler with using the stroller with a cover on before using it outside. They would not be very happy when their normally clear sight line is obstructed and they’ll also probably not be too happy with the space closing in on them. Somehow we used ours successfully enough and we got through our vaccination with relative peace of mind.

We hope this helps out some other couples who might be needing to bring their baby/toddler outside.
